NIKKO RACING NEWS UPDATES DECEMBER 2009

DECEMBER 2009

SECOND BASEBY SIGNS ON AND RESCH TOO
By Bournemouth Speedway ~ Wednesday 16th December 2009

Mark Baseby will once again join forces with brother Aaron as the Bournemouth Buccaneers set out to defend their league and cup double. Aaron, along with Jay Herne and Daniel Halsey had previously been announced as starters for 2010 and it has come as no major surprise that the impressive Mark has been re-called.

Mark enjoyed a good debut season for the Buccaneers despite carrying a niggling knee injury that hampered some of his performances but his distinct style and determination set him out from the rest on many occasions. Team bosses Neil Vatcher and Garry May both believe that Mark could increase his starting average of 7.00 by up to a point and a half if he can have a injury free run. Mark slots in to the third spot in the team, 0.15 behind Halsey and 3.16 below Herne with the Buccaneers also revealing that Jon Resch elevates from last year's number 8 slot into reserve on a 3 point average. Presently 16 years of age (Resch will be 17 by the start of the season) Jon gave a full 100% each time he was called on last season and earned himself the 2010 call-up.

BOURNEMOUTH MANAGEMENT FORCED TO REVIEW PLANS FOR 2010
By Bournemouth Speedway ~ Thursday 10th December 2009

Bournemouth Buccaneer's co-manager Neil Vatcher has issued the following official statement regarding the difficult situation that they found themselves in having to release Kyle Newman for the 2010 after the local lad featured in their initial plans.

The statement reads - "After a successful 2009 season, Garry (May) and I sat down to make our plans and put together a competitive team ahead of the 2010 season. We knew the seven riders that we wanted and had them pencilled in. Very much included in that 7 was Kyle Newman. We knew that we had to work within the 42.50 points limit, and as far as we were concerned the chosen 7 fell just within that limit. During the week commencing the 1st of December, we learnt that three of our rider's green sheets averages had increased slightly, taking our combined total to half of one point above the 42.50 limit."

"During the next four days Garry and I spent many hours trying numerous permutations before eventually coming up with our final selection for the coming season. Obviously we desperately wanted to include Kyle and as many of the 2009 double winning team as we could but with the new averages in place found there was just no way we could stick to our original selections. In arriving at our final seven, we had to take the decision to drop Kyle Newman, who had played a huge part in making 2009 such a success for the Buccaneers."

"Making that decision was the hardest that we have ever had to make, as the 2009 side had become a close knit family with a great competitive spirit. However, we feel that we have now put together a side which will put stand us in good stead to retain the National League and Knockout Cup in 2010."

"We would like to take the opportunity to thank Kyle, and the other ex Buccaneers riders, for their efforts for the club in 2009, and wish them the very best of good fortune for 2010."
