HERNE UPDATE
By Bournemouth Speedway ~ Tuesday 30th March 2010

The early medical reports on injured Jay Herne is that he suffered a fractured block in his back and underwent foot x-rays at Newport hospital on Sunday. The medical experts plan to do a full scan on his back on Monday morning to determine the full extent of his injuries. Jay crashed in heat 14 of the Newport v Somerset second leg crash whilst on a 5-1 which would have secured the meeting for the Rebels.

GOOD FRIDAY ACTION FOR BOURNEMOUTH
By Bournemouth Speedway ~ Monday 29th March 2010

Bournemouth team manager has successfully negotiated with Somerset to take a min-Bournemouth side to the Oak Tree Arena on Good Friday for a second half challenge. "I would like to thank Debbie Hancock for allowing us the opportunity to get some extra racing in after the Rebels' match against Rye House. We will stage a 4-man challenge with Kyle Howarth, Daniel Halsey and the Baseby brothers (Mark and Aaron) representing Bournemouth. Karl Mason will ride for the opposition and I know the lads are looking forward to it" said May today who earlier had seen Jay Herne crash during heat 14 of the Rebels second leg challenge. "We are awaiting further news on Jay, but he has gone to hospital complaining of lower back pain and we can only hope that it is nothing too serious as the guy was just beginning to feel good again after his winter Longtrack crash that left him needing a skin graft on his knee".

ADAM SHINES FOR SCUNTHORPE STAGS
By Nikko Racing ~ Monday 29th March 2010

Adam rode for the Scunthorpe Stags B team against Southern Track Riders B team on Sunday and scored 11+2 from 5 rides including the key ride in Heat 15. Going into the last Heat the Stags needed a 5-1 to draw the meeting and Adam rode the race of his life to keep National League rider Daniel L'Anson behind him to follow teammate Conor Dwyer home for the 5-1 needed.

It was a very impressive performance from Adam who also secured one of the fastest times of the day. This was another major step in Adams career, and he came through it with flying colours. As captain of the Nikko Racing Academy Adam now looks forward to leading the team against the UK Vikings next weekend. He will be joined by Sam Woods, who had a difficult day at the same meeting suffering from bike problems throughout the day but is looking forward to a better day next Sunday.

HERNE CONCERNS
By Bournemouth Speedway ~ Monday 29th March 2010

Bournemouth skipper Jay Herne who supremely led the Buccaneers' debut league and cup double in 2009 sustained back and foot injuries on Sunday (March 28th) whilst riding for his Premier league side Somerset. Herne was admitted to Newport hospital where it was diagnosed that he had fractured a block in his back. Foot x-rays were also taken and the medical experts are planning to do a full back scan on Monday morning to reveal the full extents of his injuries.

Herne, who underwent a skin graft operation back in Australia during the winter after crashing in the Australian Longtrack championship, crashed during heat 14 of the Severn Bridge Trophy challenge at Newport. At the time of the crash he was steering the Rebels to a 5-1 that would have clinched the tie for the Somerset side.

The Buccaneers will be involved in a 4-man challenge fixture at the Somerset track on Good Friday when Daniel Halsey, Kyle Howarth, Mark Baseby and Aaron Baseby will represent Bournemouth, whilst Karl Mason will ride for the Somerset side.

HERNE COMES THROUGH FIRST MEETING
By Bournemouth Speedway ~ Saturday 27th March 2010

It was engine problems that caused Jay Herne the most difficulty on Friday night when he launched his British 2010 season competitively. Riding for Somerset Rebels in a challenge encounter against Newport, Jay scored 4 points and claimed a race win in heat 14 when he beat former Poole Pirate Kyle Legault. With Steve Boxall collecting third place in that heat it left the Rebels in the driving seat with a 4 point cushion going into the final heat.

Herne's night began with a tapes infringement but he picked up the point off the 15 metre handicap. Herne than had to battle with his machinery problems but was able to sort them before going out for that penultimate heat.

Somerset won the 1st leg of this Severn Bridge Trophy 49-41. Jay will be riding for them again tonight (Saturday)in their opening Premier Trophy fixture at Rye House before Sunday's second leg return at Newport.

JAY HERNE HAS GOOD SPIN AT SOMERSET
By Bournemouth Speedway ~ Friday 19th March 2010

Bournemouth skipper Jay Herne who will be doubling up with Premier league club Somerset this season had his first session back on a bike after sustaining a serious knee injury whilst in Australia this winter. Reports from the Rebels' Press Day (March 17th) brought positive news about the Buccaneers' number one with boss Garry May reporting "Jay went through the paces this evening without any ill-effects from the knee and that is good news for us all. It means that all the Buccaneers have now been able to get in some track practice well ahead of our opening fixture on the 11th April. We have our own press/practice day to come on April 7th and I know the lads are looking forward to that as much as I am. Its going to be a tough season ahead, the league looks to be much tighter this year with a number of riders all benefiting from their experience last season, but I can't see any reason why we shouldn't be up there defending our titles from last year."

SHARP LOOK ABOUT THE BUCCANEERS
By Bournemouth Speedway ~ Monday 15th March 2010

While the eyes of the speedway world were focussed on the happenings at Rye House, the Buccaneers management had a more pressing engagement at Sittingbourne where, with the exception of the injured Jay Herne, all of the Buccaneers 2010 squad put in a hard day’s practise session around the Kent raceway. And at the close team manager Garry May expressed himself as very pleased with the outcome.

"Everybody put in a lot of on - track work" he said "And I am delighted with the outcome. All of the boys came through a long session with flying colours, with every one looking really sharp. We also seemed to gel well as a team, which will go a long way when the season really gets underway and the pressure’s on.Judging by what I saw today we look to be in for another good season and I can’t wait for the tapes to go up and the racing to start."

SCROGGINS STANDS DOWN
By Mildenhall Speedway ~ Thursday 11th March 2010

Mildenhall Assistant Team Manager Blayne Scroggins has resigned from his post with the National League side. Scroggins however will continue his job as Academy Team Boss, he said” After long and careful consideration I have relinquished my duties with The Fen Tigers for reasons that will remain confidential but I am still looking forward to looking after The Academy side.

Blayne will be taking on an additional role however as he takes over the vacant announcers job at West Row for the 2010 season “I think I have a hard act following on from Kevin Long and Kevin Moore but I really am looking forward to it as it is a role I have filled years ago at Peterborough and infact I covered for Edwin Overland at the East Of England Showground last season for a couple of meetings, I am really looking forward to adding a bit of fun to the professionalism at Mildenhall this season.” He continued “I have a couple of new ideas to try out but will see how it goes first as I get to grips with my role at our club.”

NEW BUCCS HOPING PRACTICE WILL MAKE PERFECT
By Bournemouth Speedway ~ Monday 8th March 2010

With the start of the new season fast approaching, the Buccaneering boys are looking to take advantage of the break in the weather and get in some much needed on-track practice. So much so that the three newcomers of the 2010 side are making the journey across the Solent to take part in tomorrow night's session at the Smallbrook Stadium on the Isle of Wight.

Danny Halsey, Karl Mason, and Kyle Howarth were quick to take advantage of the Islanders offer, with Howarth making the long trip down from Manchester to make contact with his new team mates. 2009 double winning Buccaneer Aaron Baseby will join them on the Island.

The Buccaneers management will be hoping that the weather holds up until at least next weekend when the complete side gets together at Sittingbourne for some pre season team bonding as well as the all day practice.

VATCHER'S VOICE ON 2010 BUCCS
By Bournemouth Speedway ~ Thursday 4th March 2010

After last season's success, during which Bournemouth managed to lose on only five occasions, team manager Garry May and assistant Neil Vatcher are looking ahead to the new campaign and the tough challenge of defending the Buccaneers League and Cup success, "It looks as though the bar has been raised for 2010" said Vatcher "but Garry and I are more than happy with the team that we have put together. However, when you look at the other sides we could be in for a tougher year. We have been keeping in touch with Jay Herne since his crash in Australia some four weeks ago, and he tells us that his recovery is still on track and that he should be back in this country on the 6 March. Also returning to the Buccs fold are the Baseby brothers who are looking to up their game in the coming months. We know that Mark can improve on his 7.00 point average and feel that he will be pushing Jay hard for the No 1 racejacket."

"Brother Aaron, who was the unsung hero on many occasions last year, will also be looking to improve his scores. We know that there are some fans who say that he is only in the side because of his brother, but this couldn't be farther from the truth. He is there on merit and I don't think that there is a better 4.76 average rider anywhere else in the league. John Resch is another of the 2009 squad who deserves a further run in the Buccaneers colours. His dedication to the side is unquestionable, he was a real 100 per cent trier last year, and even when he wasn't riding, he was encouraging the others boys to go and win as many races as possible, With a guarantee of more regular rides, John will improve a lot this year and at just 17 years old could surprise many people."

"Like all title winning sides in speedway, we have had to make changes, but the three new boys we have brought in will soon prove to be great replacement. We are more than delighted to have signed two on full contract, with the third coming in on a year's loan deal. Dan Halsey, the former Rye House number one, joined us on a full contract shortly after the end of last season. We had targeted him as our major winter signing knowing that he is a top class National League rider and a small track specialist. He has a lot of experience for a 21 year old and we are sure that he will become a big hitter for us throughout the season. He's another one who could challenge Jay Herne for the number one spot in the side."

"The second rider to join us on a full contract is 16 years old Kyle Howarth. His signing is a major coup for the club as we believe he will become a star for the Buccaneers and could easily go on to ride for the Pirates in maybe three or four years time. Both Garry and I watched his progress during last year and it was hard to believe that he had only got on a bike for the first time in 2008. To finish runner up in both the Under 15 and Under 18 championships is quite something and just showsm how much talent he has. He comes in on a 3.72 and will be a big plus for us at reserve. And it's vital to have good reserves as we found out with Jerran Hart and Aaron Baseby last season."

"Our final signing is Karl Mason, who joins us on loan from Newport. Karl is a highly experienced rider who helped Weymouth to the league title in 2008. He will start the season as one of our second strings, but we are sure that he will prove a trump card for us in our title defence. He is already a proven point scorer on any track and will provide some great back up to our three heat leaders."

"The season can't come quickly enough for us right now. All we want know is some dry weather so that we can get in some on-track practice and we will be ready for the off. Both Garry and I can assure the fans that we will be trying our hardest to retain both the league and cup silverware from last season and look forward to seeing everyone at the first match on Sunday 11 April against our 'auld enemy' those Wildcats from Weymouth. See you there and Come on the super Buccs."

Buccaneers and Pirates fans can also have the chance of meeting up with Buccaneers team manager Garry May and Pirates team manager Neil Middleditch, along with Davey Watt, Jay Herne and Mark Baseby, at a Fans Forum which is being held in the Champs Bar at Poole Stadium from 7.30pm on Wednesday 10 March. After the forum the evening will evolve into a special supporters Mr & Mrs Competition where couples will be interrogated as to how much they know about each other. Tickets for the evening are £4 for REF Members and £5 for non-members.

JAY IN FITNESS RACE
By Bournemouth Speedway ~ Monday 1st March 2010

Buccaneer's top scorer in 2009 faces a race against time to be fit and ready for the forthcoming 2010 season. Injured in Australia during a Longtrack meeting Jay is nursing a serious knee injury.
